This film was my final project at Vancouver Film School. I had been writing a lot of dialogue, and wanted to try something that relied less on exposition and more on visuals. I also wanted to try something with an old-time feeling without making a period piece.
The music was a huge problem. I entered pre-production with the assumption that I could use pre-1923 public domain music, but it turns out that while the recording may be public domain, the writing isn't.
Our solution to the licensing issue was to write lyrics, have them sung over sound library instrumentals, and then degrade the sound quality.
